Formator psychology in space refers to the specialized psychological knowledge, skills, mindset, and practices required of a “formator”—an educator, mentor, and individualized counselor who shapes high-performing human–robot teams for space missions. Drawing from the earlier framing of the “Men and Robots for Space Team Formator” role, this psychology prioritizes formation (deliberate development of competence, resilience, and cohesion) over pure instruction or management. It integrates space psychology, human factors, counseling approaches, and human–robot interaction science.
Core Psychological Challenges in Space Environments
Space imposes extreme stressors that a formator must understand and address:
