The work of Father Jose Maria Arrizmendiarrieta

This week, my son Alejandro and

I learned about Father José María Arizmendiarrieta and his belief that education can transform individuals, families, and communities.

We reflected on how his vision of education, human dignity, and cooperation connects to the foundation of Garay Cooperative Network (GCN).

Through GCN’s Learning Hubs, families have the opportunity to learn together, develop leadership skills, and support one another.

Our biggest takeaway was that education is not only about personal growth but also about helping others and building stronger communities.

Exploring The Brain Neurons & Sleep.

As Gaby worked through this learning activity, I helped her take it one step at a time. We looked at the brain diagrams together, talked about how neurons communicate, and connected what she was learning about sleep and the brain to everyday life. I encouraged her to ask questions and explain the ideas in her own words. I was there to support her, but she did the thinking and learning herself. I’m proud of her effort and curiosity.

AI/technology can be a tool for exploration, but the student still has to think, test, observe, and explain.

At GCN Garay Cooperative Learning Hubs, students don’t just learn information. They learn how to explore, think, create, work with others, and explain what they discover.

Take a look at NASA’s GLOBE Observer project, which uses a free app to let you and your kids participate in NASA science. Using data you collect in your own community, this project helps scientists understand Earth’s environment through observations of:

Clouds

Mosquito Habitats

Plants

Trees

Land Cover

This is a great chance for kids to explore their curiosity about the world around them while developing their observation and data collection skills. Ready to get started? Search for "NASA GLOBE Observer"

Welcome to Thomas Edison & Mom

Welcome to Thomas Edison & Mom—a space for families to document weekly learning, observations, projects, challenges, and growth.

Each week, select the appropriate topic and share:

  1. What did we explore or observe?

  2. What did the student create or learn?

  3. What did Mom learn as a Learning Hub Organizer?

  4. What evidence can we share?
